I had always been fascinated by flamingos yet had never seen one until a family Christmas trip to Key West. At the Butterfly Conservatory, Rhett and Scarlett became more than birds to me. Through a long lens, I moved close to their sweeping necks and layered feathers, studying how coral color, texture, line and curve dissolve into abstraction. These photographs explore my curiosity about form—how a living creature can become landscape, sculpture, pattern and movement, while retaining the mystery and grace that first drew me to the flamingo.
Nature has always fascinated me, especially water and sailing. I fill my days with joy and share them with my two furry feline assistants. My passion for photography started when I was seven years old. At the time, my father gave me an Instamatic camera. We both took pictures that day with our cameras. My dad said to me, "No one can see like you". I didn't realize then how much that meant. As I grew up, I learned to appreciate my unique vision and perspective. When I create, I enter a state of mind where I am empathetic and focused. My work has a haunting oneness. It is soulful.
