The Battle of Bourtange is a fine art photographic series portraying one of the most celebrated chapters of 17th-century Dutch military history—the Dutch Golden Age—in a way never seen before. Created in collaboration with the Fortress of Bourtange, the series tells the story of this world-renowned star-shaped fortress. Inspired by the great Dutch Masters, I reinterpret their visual language through contemporary photography. The goal is to celebrating resilience, identity, and freedom to rediscover the values that shaped the Dutches and continue to define its cultural heritage.
My name is Ezra Böhm (2000), an art and advertising photographer based in Utrecht. In my work, I focus on the stories of human culture and history. I showcase the rich and enduring traditional culture of the Netherlands across various disciplines, such as portraiture, genre, and city and landscape photography. In my quest for perfection, I am inspired by 17th-century Dutch paintings. I stage and romanticize scenes, but I depict today’s real-life stories truthfully. The goal is to make people aware of what we still have and why we should cherish it.
