This image was captured beneath the drifting ice off the coast of Shiretoko, Hokkaido. In -1°C waters, a diver moves forward through the scene. Above, the drift ice shifts between proximity and distance, overlapping and accumulating until it forms vast masses that drift toward the shore. Shaped by light and time, the ice constructs the underwater space, within which a quiet stillness fills the environment. In this vast natural world, the human presence is small, yet carried by a clear and deliberate intention.
Started underwater photography in 2020. I am currently based in Japan photographing the scenery of various oceans, rivers, and lakes while being a true company man.
