UMBRAL emerges from the need to look at the city through a more attentive and sensory gaze. Light, shadow, and form shape fleeting situations where images appear fragmented or partially veiled. This extract is a preliminary series that I will later develop into a photo book. The project explores the shifting identities that continually elude us and the traces we leave behind. Moving beyond anecdote, it approaches street photography as a space of perception and atmosphere, focusing on the threshold between the visible and the concealed, presence and the dematerialization of the body.
José María Ruiz is a photographer based in El Prat de Llobregat, Barcelona. Trained in Organizational and Work Psychology and a photographer by vocation, his practice inhabits the boundary between analysis and intuitive observation. His practice emerged after an accident that transformed both his life and his way of seeing: photography became a language and a way of inhabiting time. His work incorporates narrative layers, sequences that breathe, and projects conceived as small visual territories. His images reveal attentiveness and a desire to name light as matter.
