The series was shot on the Indian Ocean coast of South Africa under conditions unusual for the area: in a thick blanket of fog. People would suddenly emerge briefly from nowhere and seem to dissolve into the white “milk.” The fog seemed more real than the outlines of objects or the figures of people.
