Constructed in the 17th century to defend Portsmouth Harbour, Point Battery is now a Grade I listed building in Old Portsmouth. Access is by a flight of outdoor stairs or by the Millennium Walk which runs by the coast in this area. It's free to visit, and I love the doorways and textured walls that have weathered over time. You can exit by a small flight of steps that lead to the top of the adjacent Round Tower which offers a wonderful view of Portsmouth Harbour, Gosport and across the Solent to the Isle of Wight.
