"Hilula" or Revelry is a traditional mystic ritual, a celebration, closing or mitzvah meal that Kabbalists and Hasidim customarily hold on the anniversary of the death of a tzaddik. During the revelry, it is customary to engage in the deeds and teachings of the "leader of the Hilula." Those who customarily hold the Hilula on the day of the death of a tzaddik explain that on this day the soul of the tzaddik ascends and spreads and the power of the tzaddik increases throughout the entire world, and therefore it is a day of joy.
