The Forest of Forgetting

  • Photographer
    Ekaterina Malyutina

This photograph is a reflection on the boundaries between the human and nature, between the body and memory. In the frame, the human figure dissolves into the tree’s branches, losing its outline. They become a single being — a tree of remembrance, where the past lives outside of time. The tree symbolizes roots, memory, the inner structure of the self. The person is its shadow, its breath, a moment of awareness. This work is about how we gaze into the world in order to remember ourselves.

Ekaterina M. is a Moscow-based fine art and abstract photographer. Born in 1988, she transitioned from a career in law to photography in 2016, following her second pregnancy. Her background includes legal work for the Moscow regional government, formal training at PHOTOPLAY and Natalia Zhukova’s photography school, and teaching experience since 2021. In 2025, she began studying Art History and Art Business at Synergy University. Her artistic practice is rooted in analog photography, focusing on authenticity, inner reflection, and the subtle dialogue between everyday life and existential depth.
