My intent with photography is to synthesize the familiar and the unexpected, highlight formal relationships, and determine the interplay of light and shadow. I began photographing attentively at age 70. After 40 years in Manhattan and an international career in design, I live in Baltimore, where I plod through my eighth decade and make photographs. Plod, focus, snap; plod, focus (or not), snap; plod…I have learned that as it is with design, photography is a process that—at its simplest—can be artful; but at its optimum gives creativity and insight.
