“Blue Skies, Brown Earth, Green Leaves; Overlay Rusted Iron Sheet and Chipped Green Wall” is a composite of images - a sheet of rusted iron in the Dominican Republic and a chipped green wall on the Upper West Side of New York. Color, light, and manipulation were used to explore the tension between surface and depth, structure and collapse. Through layered composition and muted color interplay, the work invites reflection on resilience, entropy, and the fragile architecture of renewal.
Sam Rittenberg lives and works in New York City and the Dominican Republic. His primary interest is in the ability of a photograph to express the infinite and paradoxical nature of being. He is guided by the idea that every picture has the potential to be a portal to that which is ordinarily beyond us. Twenty of Mr. Rittenberg’s works have been recognized in international competitions, including the Annual Photography Awards, Chromatic Awards, Fine Arts Photography Awards, International Photo Awards, Neutral Density Awards, Refocus - World Photo Annual, and the Tokyo International Foto Awards.
