Heart Torn Red

  • Photographer
    Sam Rittenberg

“Heart Torn Red” captures a Soho street door layered with pasted images of longing, resistance, and desire. I used light, color, and composition to preserve the raw emotion of what was there, while introducing a sense of motion and assembly — a kind of urban collage that contemplates what we hold onto, and what we let go.

Sam Rittenberg lives and works in New York City and the Dominican Republic. His primary interest is in the ability of a photograph to express the infinite and paradoxical nature of being. He is guided by the idea that every picture has the potential to be a portal to that which is ordinarily beyond us. Twenty of Mr. Rittenberg’s works have been recognized in international competitions, including the Annual Photography Awards, Chromatic Awards, Fine Arts Photography Awards, International Photo Awards, Neutral Density Awards, Refocus - World Photo Annual, and the Tokyo International Foto Awards.
