Las Comparsas En Oaxaca

  • Photographer
    Demetrio Jereissati

The "Comparsas" parade in Oaxaca during the Day of the Dead celebration is a poignant moment where emotions and perceptions converge in an ancestral quest to bridge the fragile divide between life and death, joy and sorrow. Each step, choreography, costume, or banner weaves a narrative and pays homage to those who draw nearer to the earthly realm on this day.

Demétrio Jereissati was born in 1959 in Fortaleza, Brazil. Have worked professionally as a civil engineer for most of his life, he only started photo shooting in 2013, on a vacation trip to Patagonia in South America. Three years later, a photo taken on that trip won the bronze medal at the International Festival of Photography Brasilia Photo Show. Demétrio is a road runner, activity that provides an unique eye perception of the architecture of cities, landscapes and street scenes, often the inspiration or motifs of his photos.
