Clothed In Widow’s Weeds I am inhabiting a place of deep grief since the unexpected passing of my beloved husband. Using weeds from our garden and our future gravesite, I have created these self-portraits containing symbols of our relationship to aid me in my healing. Perhaps they will act as a mirror for a viewer that has also loved and lost. The term “widow’s weeds” refers to the black clothing worn (principally)by women who lost their husbands during the Victorian era, which dictated a strict “etiquette of mourning” that governed both their behavior and their appearance following
Self-taught artist working with photography and photo-montage. My art has been called an important voice in the development of a true digital aesthetic. I view myself as an alchemist, using digital, alternative process, and traditional photographic tools to delve into fundamental human issues. My work is literary and emotional, full of symbolism and multiple layers of meaning. My images have appeared in numerous publications on photography and digital art. I've been a guest lecturer at many seminars and my work is included in museum, corporate, and private collections.
