The Womb of Water

This is my son, floating around, enjoying this great big world. This is Montezuma, Costa Rica, on his eleventh birthday. As his mother, I wanted him to be born on my homeland, the island of Montserrat. I was starting a doctorate programme in Costa Rica when he was in my womb, and he came early. As a first generation Costa Rican, he takes to this land as his homeland: where we find the power and pulse of this earth. Here is my son, in the womb of water. Thankful.
