The photographic project was born from a war event that occurred on June 22, 1944 when Iris Origo, an Italian-English noblewoman, with her husband brought 22 children to safety in Montepulciano. The dramatic march was remembered as "The Children's March"; they had to cross fields and woods under bombings and mined terrain. Retracing the route of that time, I focused my investigation work on the landscape as a silent witness of time and human actions, finding in the trees the guardians who could "evoke" the silhouettes of the 22 children who wandered around the Val d'Orcia.
