These photo series were shot last 2 years during my latest photo journeys to Japan and Hong Kong. I focus on nightly scenes in urban settings. My goal is to explore the intercourse between colours and composition. I have an obsession for the contrast of the filth with the gracious shattering of coloured lights.
My photo series “Alleyways” was shot during my visit to Hong Kong in October 2022. It reflects my fascination for nightly scenes taking place in backstreets and alleyways. I am obsessed with the involuntary aesthetic interplay between garbage and containers, pausing kitchen personnel, and gracious shattering of light these places harbour. Ties van Brussel (Netherlands, 1984) is a Dutch physician and street photographer currently living in Amsterdam. His photography work focuses on nightly urban settings, with a special interest in atmospheric scenes in Asian cities.
