Storm Passing Over Desert Road

This remote road follows Comb Ridge, in Bears Ears National Monument, Utah. Comb Ridge is an 85 mile long monocline which is a step-like bend of the earth’s rock layers in one direction. The formation resulted from the pressure of tectonic plates colliding deep under the earth’s surface. It occurred about 65 million years ago, around the time of the K-T extinction event which wiped out the dinosaurs.
