Run With The Wind

  • Photographer
    Jamie Johnston

A herd of mustangs gallop across a ridge in the 87,000 acre Chico Basin Ranch. Pikes Peak, Colorado is in the distance, still sporting late spring snow. As one of the largest uninterrupted stretches of shortgrass prairie left in the United States, the Chico offers unparalleled native wildlife viewing. I came to photograph birds, but early that morning the mustangs grabbed my attention. I had to take the shot!

Photographing Colorado wildlife provides adventure in my retirement. Occasionally a few landscapes are thrown in—but searching for and finding, new and interesting wildlife is my obsession.
