'Walls' explores the cyclical nature of being through five images of weathered walls - from the north coast of the Dominican Republic to urban Soho. Whether showing fading paint with weeds or peeling posters suggesting decay and renewal, each image attempts to capture the paradoxical interplay of destruction and creation. Color, light, and compositional changes were used to invite viewers to reflect on the protean nature of beauty and being and offer a visual meditation on the endless cycles and profound connections within the fabric of the universe.
Sam Rittenberg lives and works in New York City and the Dominican Republic. His primary interest is in a photograph's power to convey the infinite and paradoxical nature of being. He is guided by the idea that every picture has the potential to be a portal to that which is ordinarily beyond us.
