The Spiritual Halls of Wine

  • Photographer
    Oliver Lahrem

The Eberbach Monastery in Rheingau, Hesse is world famous for its fine wines and of course for the feature film “In the Name of the Rose”. With the kind support of the monastery administration, I was allowed to photograph the monastery's hospital basement. This building was originally built in the early 13th century as the monastery's hospital and death house and is a notable landmark throughout Europe. In modern times, the hospital cellar was temporarily used for wine production. With the old wine barrels in candlelight, the historic hospital cellar represents a spiritual place for wine

"If you really love nature, you will find beauty everywhere." - Vincent Van Gogh This quote from Vincent Van Gogh is very true for me, as I am a nature person and have been creatively dealing with nature as a landscape gardener for many years. When I was on vacation, I was always traveling, whether near or far, but I always had my camera with me. This was probably the basis for my photography, which became a passion. When I'm on the move, I always have an eye open for great subjects. With impressionist photography, I found a new field of activity alongside nature and architecture.
