Mbirikani Lioness

A lone lioness transversing through one of the tall golden grass plains in Kenya's Rift Valley that has not succumb to the blight that has struck nearly everywhere else during one of the longest ongoing and severe droughts in memory. Born out of a volcanic eruption three-hundred and sixty thousand years ago, the Chyulu Hills and surrounding plains area support a diverse population of predators and herbivores. Unfortunately, even here the wildlife is at extreme risk from poachers, animal traffickers, human encroachment and natural threats.
