I didn't want to document or describe places or people, but rather to arouse a state of mind and invite the spectator to reflect on the fact that the circus has always generated dreams and wonder, adapting through the ages to the changes in taste and morals of society, reinventing itself each time in a balance between tradition and innovation. Today, the circus must respond to a society that is no longer anthropocentric but eco-centric. To develop the project, I followed two circuses with animals in Italy, two with holograms in Italy and Germany, and did archive research at CEDAC in Verona.
Quando fotografo sono altrove. Mi piace pensare che chi guarderà le mie foto possa entrare con me “in quell’altrove” trovando spunti di riflessione. Mi piace raccontare quello che nasconde l’apparenza, ma anche quello che il tempo prova a nasconderci, quello che obbedisce alla sensibilità, alla gentilezza, mi piace pensare di mostrare degli aspetti che le persone non riescono a percepire e che invece credo siano importanti.Vorrei che le mie immagini risvegliassero quella delicatezza di pensiero e gentilezza nello sguardo. Ho l’illusione di pensare che questa sensibilità ci renderebbe migliori.
