Oneirataxia

Oneirataxia is inspired by personal childhood experiences of nature and visualises my recollections of daydreams when passing through natural spaces. By digitally layering multiple photographs it is intended that they initially be perceived as paintings before the characteristics of photography become apparent upon closer inspection. By considering the role of photography and painting in depicting nature, and in turn, our experiences and recollections, this series encourages people to reconnect with the natural world through sheer visual pleasure and appreciation.

Mai Naito is a photographer born in Osaka, Japan. In 2015 she moved to Brisbane, Australia to study and grow in a new environment while fueling her passion for capturing moments. Mai grew up in an environment blessed with nature and perceiving natural spaces through the lens of her imagination. Based on her personal childhood experiences of seeking beauty in nature, she developed an interest in expressing the emotional effects of natural spaces. Through this approach she aims to connect with the audience through this emotion, encouraging them to rediscover a deep connection between thems
