Nowhere and Everywhere

  • Photographer
    Marioluca Bariona

There are spaces where democracies lose their principles. In Italy, the Trieste's abandoned Silo is one of these. Asylum seekers who survived the border crossing live in that place. Next of, in the World Square, some activists dress the refugees' wounds, others play volleyball, and some offer clothing. However, “World Square” is a name given by the activists, so it exists nowhere, like many places absent from official cartographies but present everywhere, reminding us that humanity never ceases to witness absurd, intolerable violence and, at the same time, indestructible, resilient solidarity.

Marioluca Bariona lived in Turin, Ventimiglia, and Genoa, where he graduated in nursing. As a social activist, he uses photography as a medium to raise awareness around social and environmental issues. He prefers a concrete photographic language aimed at revealing a collective, choral reality in which identities merge to show common values, demands, needs.
