Chronicle of An Extinction Foretold

  • Photographer
    Lara Collado Martín

For a few years now I have been concerned about how humanity is damaging planet Earth and so I decided to use my art to raise awareness by creating conceptual images. This is one of my favourite pieces as I'm also a scuba diver and I see the tough reality more times than I care to remember. Have you seen those photos or videos of sea creatures with straws in their noses, birds with plastic bags on their heads or even plastic residues inside some animals stomachs? This is real, this is happening. According to studies, 100,000 marine animals die every year from plastic waste and, if we do not

I'm a self-taught photographer and visual artist from Gran Canaria. My pasion about photography started during my adolescence, when self-portraits became my therapy and the way-out of a bullying situation. I used to capture my feelings, venting my anxiety, anguish and fear. Nowadays, I still create self-portraits to express feelings and as a way of "artivism". My photos have been used for the CD "Bordeaux" and for the cover of two books in 2021 and I've worked in many projects for local governments and inter-island council of Canary Islands.
