Sugbo was what Cebu City was called before the 16th century. The name "Sugbo" transitioned to “Sibu” or “Sibo”. In the old Cebuano language, the word “Sibo” refers to trade, barter, or swap.
Shukri Zali is a Malaysian documentary photographer and graphic designer whose work extends between Southeast Asia and France. Since 2004, his long-term project La Marche de l’humanité has followed ordinary lives, cultural memory, faith, labour and human continuity across borders. His black-and-white work sits between authorial documentary, humanist photojournalism and visual essay, with previous recognition from PX3 Paris, IPA and other international photography awards.
