Still Lives With Found Objects In Window Light

  • Photographer
    Robert Claus

These images form part of a larger, multi-year project, and focus on minimalist compositions shot in daylight shaped by curtains, scrims, and flags. Still life invites both viewers and makers to decelerate; creating such a photograph is a meditative process. Inviting the audience to share that experience is what these shots are all about. I find simplicity in art especially appealing, because it leaves room for us within the frame; a composition pared down to a single object creates a sense of calm contemplation. In times of stress and crisis, I find this to be particularly valuable.

An emerging photographer, Robert Claus has been exploring drawing, composition, and theater since an early age. Born in Germany, he relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area after graduating from the University of London. Mainly drawing on still life for his subjects, Robert Claus has also ventured into portraiture and landscapes. He has produced several book-length curated projects that cover a range of subjects. Now starting to exhibit his work in the United States, and abroad, he is actively seeking opportunities to share his work with a wider audience.
