Kuku Djungan elder Alfred Neal OAM (with great great grandson Kailan Murgha, 3 weeks) marks his 100th birthday in October 2022. A life long advocate for indigenous rights, Alf was awarded the ‘Order of Australia’ (OAM) in 2019 for ‘Service to the Aboriginal community, and the 1967 Referendum Campaign’ for his work successfully waging a decade long campaign for the referendum which resulted in Indigenous peoples recognition in Australia’s Constitution. Sadly Alf passed away in May before the Australian public vote again in a referendum on indigenous rights - The Indigenous Voice to Parliament.
