The Colors of Vietnam

  • Photographer
    David Flynn

Vietnam is a country of color: vibrant, often garish, never boring. Incense in the colorful interior of a temple in Saigon. When I look at this image, I smell it. Flower Seller: This girl and her family trade in color. They sell flowers for people's homes adding color to their lives. Boy and His Dog: Here a young monk and his dog look warily at the photographer. The colors here are very pleasing. A brown dog. A yellow balcony. A saffron robe. A charming blind man jokes with his customers while selling Tiger Balm on the streets of Hoi An. A colorful character indeed. I made a purchase.

“As a Cultural Photographer I try to look for scenes, people, or situations that reflect local culture and life. Sometimes I just shoot what I like. But whatever the motivation to take a picture: I have a deep, personal connection with the places and people represented in these photographs. As I shoot, I try to take nothing for granted knowing that the moment in time I am freezing may never happen again.”
