Suicides in Spain are the leading cause of unnatural death in the country, with more than 4,000 deaths per year. Asturias is the community with the highest percentage of suicides per 100,000 inhabitants. The Asturian mining basins have a tradition of poor communication when it comes to expressing emotions or feelings, which added to factors such as the absence of a sustainable economy, the progressive population decline or the high consumption of alcohol, drugs and legal psychotropic drugs, makes this territory a breeding ground for emotional and mental problems, which can lead to suicide.
Audiovisual storyteller, member of Agencia Vórtice, and director of the creative audiovisual production company El Holandés Aberrante. He has worked on projects related to the future and resilience in Fukushima, social leaders in Colombia, and suicide in Asturias, as well as directing the medium-length documentary Engarradiella about the punk scene and the problems faced by the LGTBIQ+ community within it, and the feature-length documentary Socialicidio about suicide in the Asturian mining regions.
