The Dai people practice southern Buddhism. When boys reach a certain age they enter a monastery for a period of time as a young lama (mainly to learn traditional culture) which will last seven days or several months and years. M ost of them return to their homes after that, while a few will continue to practise and become religious professionals. This is a scene of a group of more than 100 children at the General Buddha Temple in Xishuangbanna.
