Forty years have passed since the 1979 Vietnam Mission, the mission of the Italian Navy to aid the Vietnamese boat people off the South China Sea, saving more than nine hundred people, politically persecuted fleeing Communist Vietnam after the end of the war and the establishment of the totalitarian regime in North Vietnam. The project involves the former refugees and some of the sailors who participated in the mission. The images show some of the protagonists who arrived in our country, stories of reunited families and new families born thanks to the meeting of different cultures.

Andrea Lavaria born in 1968. The profession for the art of photography began on cruise ships. His professional career began in 2001 working with various companies for event and commercial photography. Lately, the meeting with a non-profit organization determines the passage to the testimony of more serious issues, in particular of the political-economic hardships that affect many states of the world, documenting humanitarian projects in Africa and Sri Lanka. The social reportage has its great starting point and a continuous research to date, collaborating NGOs at national/international level.
