The tale of “Kris” (Keris) in my family came as the inspiration for this project titled “Landep. Landep is derived from Javanese word which means sharp—which turned divisive following the divorce of my parents. The Kris is a traditional, short sword or dagger that have sharp characteristics. Kris embodied power and authority. Kris gained power and frequently developed its own personality as it was passed down from generation to generation. I traveled around Java to gain a better understanding of how modern society perceives the Kris and its meaning in the material and spiritual spheres.
Yoese Mariam is a photographer who lives in Jakarta Indonesia. Her profession is Geoscientist who also takes photographs and is passionate about visual storytelling. Aside of travelling and hiking, her love photography started in line with her professional path and later devoted her time to photograhing cultural and documentary subjects. She has attended photography workshops. She is one of the selected participants of Panna Future Talents 2022, a one-year mentorship photography program run by PannaFoto Institute to foster the development of visual storytelling.
