A 6.9-magnitude earthquake with subsequent shocks rocked Taiwan on 18 September 2022, causing buildings and bridges to collapse while triggering tsunami warnings. Among the damages reported, four people were trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building in Yuli, Hualien of Taiwan. Hundreds of travelers were also trapped in mountainous areas in Yuli due to landslide and passages destroyed. Daniel Ceng was the first foreign photojournalist who arrived at the scene by traveling from Taipei despite transportation disruptions. He stayed there for more than 26 hours.

25-year-old Daniel Ceng is an award-winning Asian photojournalist covering politics, social issues, war and more across the world, including Europe, Middle-East, Asia, and Southeast Asia. He has been working with several international news agencies, including Anadolu Agency, EPA Image , AFP, AP, ZUMA Press, The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, and The Initium.
