Divers immerse, travel and resurface an underground river in the Yucatan peninsula, Mexico. These bodies of freshwater were flooded some 8000 years ago and are the source of life of Flora & Fauna of the region. Know locally as Dzonot "Cenotes" the Mayan civilization gave them utmost importance and respect, considering them to be both source of life and portals to the underworld. These rivers (800km mapped to date, and many more sinkholes) are under constant duress from so called "development" - an unfortunate way to remember the wisdom of the Mayans.

Joram Mennes Born in 1979 on the small Balearic island of Formentera, where he grew up with the sea, fishermen, and water activities of all kinds. Fascinated, he started a diving career manning every position of the dive shop until he had the good fortune to coincide with several photographers, awakening his interest in underwater photography.
