This self portrait was taken last year when I felt completely out of touch with myself. I went back to my home country for mental health reasons and had to self isolate for a week. Photography brought me comfort and helped me handle being by myself while battling my own mind at the time. To me, this image represents getting back to myself after a long time of disconnection.

My love for photography started when my father bought me a small digital camera – I was obsessed with the idea I could keep ephemeral things alive forever. How with the simple click of my camera could I eternalize a moment in time. I started taking self portraits over ten years ago as a way to discover myself as a person. Now I see photography as a way to know different parts of me and explore my own body. It helps me to get in touch with a deeper level of my own self love and self worth. Photography helped me to be kinder to myself – I am now grateful for my body and what it allows me to do
