All participants are united by the pain and scars brought into their life through their experiences of domestic violence. In this project, I research the beauty of transformation and healing. We never know how strong we are until our strength is tested. The shape of us is impossible to see until it's fractured until a wound like a crack runs its length. With humility, we can analyze what was broken In order to fix it. It is the process of creating self-value. It's not about forgetting what happened to us, but with intention to keep going with our best hopes, with each broken part of ourselves.
Gala Semenova is a self-taught Fine Art Photographer who lives and works in San Diego, California. She was born in Tula, Russia in 1981 and relocated to the States in 2009. In her art Gala is after the freshness and wonder of the spirit. She recognizes inner beauty and resilience in every human being and reflects it by capturing the true spirit of a person, amplifying and revealing something personal. With each portrait, she aims to reveal the vulnerability inside to allow space for recognition, healing, and empowerment. Gala’s work is inspired by colors, emotions, and feelings.
