This is a digital photo of a portion of a huge crane for unloading cargo from ocean freighters arriving at the Port of Oakland, California. The architecture of this crane caught my eye because of the amazing geometric shapes and angles in its design. The many parallel ascending columns give the photo an energetic upward moving dynamic. There are also multiple triangles and geometric shapes created by intersecting views of the ascending columns with the overhead steel cables. Overall, it appears to be a very good example of interesting form meeting function.
My professional background is in university administration. I am an amateur photographer whose interests are primarily in abstract and experimental, modern art photography. I also enjoy more traditional travel-related photography focused mainly in the areas of architecture, nature and landscapes. Some of my early photography accompanied the pages of an online literary magazine. In addition, I am the author of two published mystery novels for which I designed the cover art.
