Starting with selfies that are publicly posted to Instagram and tagged #selfiegay, I retake photographs using multiple exposure, intentional camera motion, and layering to create new portraits that are unpredictable and startling. With these techniques, I explore the intersection of photography and contemporary art to create evocative, painterly likenesses of personality, mood, and motion. This series considers how gay men want to be seen, exploring masculinity, standards of beauty, and the restless, searching gay male gaze.
