Taking this photo at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C. almost five years ago, I had no idea that it could be used as a narrative photograph illustrating the current struggle of the Ukrainian people. The man reading Lincoln's second inaugural address was dressed in Ukrainian colours of which I was ignorant then. He turned out to be an Ukrainian visiting America with his two children. They caught my attention, especially the little girl who tried to climb up the marble wall while seemingly reaching out for the famous and still timely inscription. I find this scene kind of symbolic.
I am a recently retired university teacher of medical English. I like to travel and take pictures of nice and interesting sights. Sometimes, I also select suitable photos to enhance digitally.
