Honorable Mention in Architecture / Buildings

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary in 2022, I am currently photographing in the Olympic Village. It was built for the XX Olympic Summer Games in 1972 to accommodate the numerous athletes and journalists. The architects Heinle, Wischer and Partner were commissioned with the design at the time. The Olympic Tower and the sports facilities, on the other hand, were designed by Behnisch Architekten. In 1998, the buildings, together with the sports facilities in the Olympic Park, were placed under ensemble protection. Today, the 300-hectare area is one of Munich's most popular residential areas.

Stahl’s consistent visual language of vibrant colours, stark geometric subjects and sublime composition is the backbone of his unique brand of documentary constructivism. It aims at triggering unconcealed and ingenious responses from the embedded conditioning of our individual and collective conscious. While the artist's works seem engineered to create first impressions that are factual, sharp, hyper-realistic and unrelentingly documentary in appearance, our subconscious decodes these deliberately crafted stylistic devices as proffering hidden meanings that far surpass the merely depicted.
