Living in Vietnam, I see the cultural stressors that overwhelm its young women, torn between family expectations and their dreams of a self-chosen life. They disclose to me their anguish, confusion, and their relief, once ending the ultimate choices. My respect and curiosity about the women's conflicts inspired "The New Global Women" project. The photo artworks use a collage-like abstraction subtly referring to the women's emotional status. Some composite abstractions evolve from each woman's story, are integrated with my intuitive visual impressions, and merged with moderate representations.
