According to folk tales from Lucca, when you are not able to find your key or something disappears inexplicably in your house, it is Linchetto’s fault. It is believed that Linchetto is a naughty spirit that tricks people in their own house, he can cause knots in your hair so you will be forced to cut it or he can steal something so you cannot find it. He loves neatness and He cannot bear disorder. If you want to get rid of Linchetto you can leave a bowl of berries or rice. He is not able to count. He instinctively will want to count. Not being good at counting, he will soon get bored.

Nicoletta Cerasomma is an Italian artist born in Lucca. Her research investigates the erasure of feminine identity — through memory, violence, and silence — using photography, installation, and archival materials. Dust, gold, fire, and light become agents of meaning in works that move between dream and collective memory. Her previous work addressed violence against women directly. This project continues that investigation — rooted in history, in one city, in names that were never footnotes.
