A symbol is a sign that signifies an idea or relationship, creating linkages between otherwise very different realities. Pandemic faces us a new reality. Social distancing has been the main strategy adopted around the globe to fight against this misfortune. We have incorporated new visual signs in our daily life, ruling the use of the public space. Circles that tell us where to stand, lines that limit our movement, and arrows that indicate us the safe directions are part of this universe of signs that will remain as part of our collective memory as symbols of the sorrows we are facing.

In my photographic work I explore the intimate relationships between the materiality of my outer world and the perception of it as projections of my internal emotional world in an attempt to reveal my identity, which would otherwise remain hidden. I am especially interested in the use of photography not only as a way of unidirectional expression but as a tool for exploring the relationship between the photographer and the subject, part of what we know as the photographic act over which we have an unreal sense of control.
