A portrait of Catania through the faces and souls of people living in the oldest and dark streets of the city. Catania is known as ‘the black city’ due to the colour of its buildings, which are covered by the soot and ash of the volcano Etna, whose eruptions have often damaged it and shaped it through a multi-secular constructive tradition based on Vulcanic stone. My project is a photographic research focused on human beings living in urban backgrounds and the poorest contexts of the city.

Antonio Vezzari (Messina, 1985) is an italian photographer based in Milan.
