Every year in September the traditional Odwira Festival is celebrated in Akuapem, Ghana, integrating multiple cultural, religious and traditional activities. Among them is Boxing. This portfolio includes some images of a larger project that I did on the various boxing matches that took place on one of the festival nights, focusing more on the human side that surrounded the matches.
João Miguel Barros was born in 1958, in Lisbon, Portugal. He is a Lawyer by profession, in Lisbon and Macau. Recent individual exhibitions: “Creative Macau”, Macau (2017), “Museu Berardo”, Lisbon, (2018), “Macau Contemporary Art Center”, Macau (2019), Albergue SCM (2019) and “Fund. Rui Cunha, Macau (2020). He has also participated in several group exhibitions. He published three photobooks. Currently he is publishing the “Zine Photo” (www.zine.photo) including his own work. João Miguel Barros is also a freelance curator in contemporary photography.
