The images in this series are part of a larger body of work (32 show images, 100 total) that explores the social landscape of the rural towns of the southern United States. The small towns of this region exude a curious sense of pride and stoicism, mixed with hope and the obvious effects of a long, slow decline. Although many try to keep up with the social and economic strides of the more metropolitan cities, there is little to help them keep pace. These images do not praise this landscape as if it were a rare and endangered place. They are a verse, an ode to a slowly fading present.
