Silver 2026 Nature / Astrophotography

Worlds under one Galaxy

  • Photographer
    Matteo Strassera
  • Prize
    Silver in Nature / Astrophotography

This series of panoramas is the result of numerous journeys in search of the darkest and clearest skies in the world. As a landscape photographer, I am always looking for wild, untouched places, but artificial lighting in cities makes this task increasingly difficult. Sometimes you have to travel hundreds of kilometres away from settlements and into the desert to see a pristine sky. These images were taken in the desert of the United Arab Emirates, Tenerife, Utah, Kazakhstan and Namibia, and I often include a human figure in my panoramas to show how small man is in comparison to Nature.

Matteo Strassera, is a young nature and landscape photographer born in Rome, Italy. His passion for photography, has taken him to corners of the world where Nature shows its wildest face. His passion leads Matteo to spend weeks capturing images of the vast natural spaces where the impact of man is almost nonexistent, at any time of day or night. Matteo's mission is to use his photography to champion and protect the wonders the world has to offer, from volcanic eruptions to endless expanses of ice or sand.
