Time has not ended, yet life has already waned. CODA uses AI to re-create images of animals now extinct. Salgado's Genesis looks back to first things; CODA holds its gaze on the last—an homage and a reply. To re-create is to mark the permanence of loss. These images, assembled from digital light and shadow, matter not for what they re-create, but for what can never truly be restored. Nature has its order; life has its own causality. The story of life on Earth is written by both persistence and extinction, both deserve equal regard. This elegy invites us to reopen the Earth's missing pages.
