This series was taken of my daughter, an athletic, aventureos young woman, who is very camera shy. Designing a shoot that highlights both her playful and her feminine sides I aimed to create a space where she can connect with her female side, with her inner beauty, and also with the spirit of women who came before her. The series is a deliberate interplay between fashion and art photography, with the goal of highlighting the importance of authenticity - which flies in the face of the typical fashion style.
I am an author and self-taught documentary photographer working at the crossroads of art, documentary and commission-based photography. My written and photographic work engages with stories that connect cultures, ethnicities and geographical areas; I focus on stories that connect, rather than separate us. 2017-2020 I was working on a freelance project in Haiti, and I am currently working on a project that will connect Cuba with New York.
